As you look into the following verse you can see the prophet Isaiah looking ahead to the end time, when Christ will dwell with His people in heaven: "The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee; but the Lord shall be unto the an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory" (Isaiah 60:19). It is the Apostle John who picks up on this prophecy of Isaiah's in Revelation 21:23 and in 22:5).
You may recall back on the second day of creation that God echoed these words: "Let there be light, and there was light" however there was no sun or moon yet created. It is Jesus Christ who will provide the life-giving, luminous body for the light we will have in eternity. Scientists predict that the sun will burn out in about five billion years, however the light of Jesus Christ will be from everlasting to everlasting.
When the sun finally drys up, grows dark and eventually disappears it will be the reign of Jesus that will continue to be our "light".
