Bible Names For Jesus Christ: "Carpenter"

Of all the names we read about Jesus in the Bible, I believe that "Carpenter" is one of the most recognizable ones.  We know that Jesus learned His skill from His father, Joseph (His earthly father).  The name used here was mostly used in a negative way but actually the name showed His honor and dignity.  I can envision that Jesus probably worked side-by-side with His father in the carpentry shop and He probably kept this profession for fifteen to twenty years until His public ministry began as we can see in Luke 3:23 where it says, "And when He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age..."

Jesus gave dignity to labor as one working with His hands and along side the common man.  It is no wonder that the "common people enjoyed listening to him gladly" in Mark 12:37.  Jesus Christ spoke in a language they understood and used parables in everyday life to teach.

Jesus Christ was called "The Carpenter from Nazareth" because His teachings could reach the common man.  He was also referred to as "The Carpenter's Son."
